Marc and Tricia Leach ofย Keep Your Daydreamย recently startedย theirย 10thย seasonย onย YouTube. Sharing their experiences as they travel the country and try out different rigs,ย the familyย encouragesย people to โ€œstart small, start nowโ€ to achieving theirย nomadicย dreams. Weย caught up with Marc and Triciaย and talked about what lessons they have learned after 5 years of living on the road.ย Andย they have plenty of experience.ย Though theyย initially thought they wanted to explore the world by sailing the oceans, the logistics of living on the sea soon bogged them down, and they were paralyzed by all the choices.

Catching up with Keep Your Daydream:ย ย

Employing theirย โ€œstartย small,ย startย nowโ€ย philosophy, they decided to jump into a 30-foot Pacific Coachworks Northlandย Travel trailerย toย startย adventuringย right awayย whileย givingย themselvesย time to figureย things out. However,ย they quickly fell in love with the RV life,ย so they decided to live on the road full time.ย You can read about that in our firstย spotlight on Keep Your Daydream.ย ย

โ€œWeย reallyย donโ€™t wantย people to freeze and say,ย โ€˜now is notย theย rightย time,โ€™ย because youโ€™ll never push off,โ€ Tricia said.ย โ€œSo, that whole theme ofย โ€˜startingย small,ย startingย nowโ€™ย isnโ€™t always literal. Itย doesnโ€™tย always meanย you have toย have a tiny rig thatย doesnโ€™tย fit your family. It just means whatever you can doย andย embrace it.โ€ย ย

โ€œYou have to become your own Robinย Hood.ย Youย have toย steal the moments that are given to you,ย and youย have toย push to make things happen. Life isnโ€™t just going to unfold for you.โ€ย

Sinceย starting their adventure, they have switched to a Grand Designย andย thenย an Airstream. In season 10,ย theย coupleย climbed into a monstrous 43-foot,ย triple-axel diesel pusher andย droveย a class Cย RV, andย took aย trip in a van toย share their experiencesย with the different vehicles.ย

Theย Leachesย couldnโ€™t pick a favorite rig they have had over their travels, just like they canโ€™t pick aย favoriteย among their three kids:ย Caleb, Carson, and Tori. They felt like every rig was right for theย mission theyย had at the moment.ย They said when people are thinking about buying a rig to travel in,ย theyย should be โ€œmission-focused.โ€ย RV buyers need toย think about what they want their rig to do rather than think about who they are.ย

โ€œIt doesnโ€™t necessarily have to do with how big your family is, if youโ€™re a couple, if youโ€™re full time, if youโ€™re not full time,ย people think that is how they should be choosing a rig,โ€ Marc said.ย โ€œIt has way more to do with how someone travels than who they are.โ€ย ย

Marc said people need to get some experience traveling in a setup they think they might like before deciding to invest in the lifestyle. With so much information on the internet, there is a temptation to overspeculate what you think you might want and then get entrenched in that decision.ย ย

Marc said many people decide they want to have a van or boondock all the time without having that first-hand experience to see if they like itย first. So,ย they spend $20-$30Kย on a solar kit or upgrading their rig.ย Then they might startย dry campingย and find out theyย would rather spend their time at anย RV parkย with power and nice amenities.ย

Marc said reality is always going toย be different than what you have researched andย imagined. Getting that real-world experienceย andย making adjustmentsย as you go willย result in long-term satisfaction.ย ย ย

โ€œThere is a tendency forย people to want to get everything figured out,โ€ Marc said.ย โ€œThey want to have the rig figured out,ย the solar figured out, the batteries, because it can be overwhelming,ย and that is a wayย to feel in control.โ€ย ย

โ€œThatโ€™sย fine, but then it might not happen if we wait to have everything figured out. Sometimes,ย you have to have a little faith that you will figure it out as you go.โ€ย ย ย

Figuring out yourย most significant limiting factor to what you want to doย can also help you stayย mission-focused. Tricia saidย sometimes you think you want to stay out boondocking for 10-14ย daysย andย buyย a battery bank that will last that long. But if yourย water tankย will only last 4 days, you will have to leave a lot early than you expected.ย

That isย why the Leaches like Battle Born Batteriesย becauseย lead-acidย batteriesย are no longer a limiting factor.ย As content creators,ย theyย constantly charge laptops, drones and need enough powerย to edit their videos.ย

โ€œBattle Bornย Batteriesย literallyย changedย the wayย weย were able to conduct our life,โ€ Tricia said.ย

Before they hadย our batteries,ย they would have to plan their route by how long their lead-acidย systemย would last.ย Back then, they would have toย be conscientious about theirย courseย and make sure they were close to RV parks toย plug into shore power. They would have toย limit their time in national parks and dry campingย toย ensure they had enoughย energyย to work.ย ย

Now with their Battle Born Batteries,ย they haveย much more freedom to chooseย their route, untethered fromย needing to hook into shore power every few days.ย ย ย ย ย

โ€œThe moment we started switching over to lithium,ย and we knew we had power, it gave us the freedom to choose the route that we wanted to choose, and stay where we wanted to stay, without being constrained by where we could charge,โ€ Marc said.ย โ€œLithium provides freedom in route planning, whereย you stay,ย and how long you stay, and that has been the biggest change.โ€ย
