The above video walks you through how to properly configure a Victron Multiplus Compact with Battle Born LiFePO4 batteries.
Parts Needed:
Battle Born Battery with Cables
Ethernet Cable – little pointer break off the RJ45 hold in tab, its a bear to remove this cable from the inverter after programming once its locked in place.
MK3 to USB adapter
Computer with Victron VE Configure software
Settings we set up are as follows:
Inverter Tab
- DC Low Voltage Input Shutdown: 11.5 volts
Charger Tab
- Check box “Lithium Batteries”ย On the sub screen select “Lithium Iron Phosphate”
- Absorption: 14.6 volts (acceptable range 14.4 to 14.6 volts)
- Float: 13.5 volts (13.6 or lower float is acceptable)
- Charge Current: 80 amps
- Absorption time: 0.5 hours per 100 Ah battery
Also, we are more than happy to program any charge controller that you purchase from us.

Thanks for the video! Unfortunately I’m having an issue getting mine set up. I know this is a Victron product and I’ve reached out to them for assistance but I thought I’d see if this is a common issue you can help with. I have the Multiplus connected just like in the video, with DIP switch 2 set to on but when I turn it on the charger and alarm lights flash and then the programmable relay light stays lit. VE Configure won’t detect anything. DC voltage is normal and I have no AC loads or anything else hooked up to it. Thanks in advance!
Hi Kara,
This is a great question. When connecting your inverter on the VE Configure software it will show the background picture with an “X” over it. From here click on the tab Port Selection > Com Port > Auto Detect and from there it’ll let you know if the target is found. From there you’d put in the desired settings. If this doesn’t work please feel free to comment again or call us at 855-292-2831. Thank you!
I changed my settings to match your description. What are my expectations for the battery and victron? I have two battle born batteries running in parallel. When I’m plugged into shore power the soc still goes down. Is that expected? I thought the victron keeps the battery charged? Thanks for your help.
Kevin,
Do you have a load on the batteries when you are seeing the SOC declining? Also, when you plug in what voltages exactly are you seeing?
Hi, I have 2 battle born 100AH in parallel with a multiplus 3k – 12v. Iโm using VE configure 3 and the mk3-usb… but VE Configure 3 software never finds the multiplus at all (using com port – auto detect).
Iโve tried BOTH Ethernet ports on the Multiplus (because the manual doesnโt say which is for what) both with and without dip switch #2 on. On the multiplus 3k the dip switches are in backwards order (dipswitch 8 is first at the top and #1 is the last one at the bottom, so Iโve also tried with dip switch #7 (2nd from the top…) on just incase when you said โ2ndโ you meant 2nd from the top…. none of these work (i also tried with two different cat-5 cables just incase).
Is my Mk3-usb busted? What am I missing?
Hello Jon,
Just a couple general troubleshooting tips I have is to make sure your inverter is connected to a power source like your battery so it is able to turn on. I know this sounds like common sense, but you would be surprised with how many people have forgotten to do this! I myself have :). Also, make sure You do have a UTP cord attached to the inverter and the MK3 cord, and then the MK3 cord to the computer. And when the first screen pops up, make sure you click on Port Selection, and then to Auto Detect.
If none of this helps and you’re still seeing the same problems, please feel free to call us at 855-292-2831. We are open Monday-Friday 8am-4:30 PM PST.
Thank you!
Hello,
I have 300 Ah of batteries. Your recommendation of “Absorption time: 0.5 hours per 100 Ah battery” tells me I should use 1.5 hours for absorption time. The MultiPlus only allows whole numbers, 1 or a 2. Would it be better for me to go with a 1 or a 2?
Thank you
Hi James, thanks for your comment. We would suggest a 2 hour absorption to ensure the BMS has a chance to allow passive balancing to occur and allow the cell modules a chance to fully balance. If you have any other questions, feel free to give us a call at 855-292-2831 or email us at [email protected] and our sales and tech specialists would be more than happy to help.
HI, I am confused as to how I should wire my victron 712 round monitor and my victron color monitor together with my victron 3000 inverter and MPPT controller? I would like to know the best way to wire this up and what cables are required where…. I also bought a smart dongle, and want it wired up as well.
Hi Maximilian, thank you for reaching out. We offer schematics on our website that you can check out, and if you give our sales and tech team a call at 855-292-2831 for us to provide a dealer and installer for you to use.
Hi,
I purchased a victron multiplus 12/3000 recently to replace my 12/2000
I then connected my laptop to the 12/2000 and with Victron Connect updated the firmware which restored factory default settings prior to selling.
Going to your web settings page for the battleborn LiFePO4 batteries I used the recommended settings in Victron Connect. However after selecting Lithium Batteries I was unable to find a subscreen for selecting Lithium Iron Phosphate.
“Check box โLithium Batteriesโ On the sub screen select โLithium Iron Phosphateโ
Could the current multiplus 12/2000 not have this sub screen any longer or perhaps moved it?
Hi Chris. You should be able to use the custom settings and put in the specific parameters for you battery.
