One of the most common issues in a battery system comes down to one simple thing: the connection point.

Every bit of power going in and out of your battery passes through this connection. If it is not done correctly, it can introduce resistance, which leads to heat, voltage drop, and reduced system performance.

Start with Proper Cable Contact

The first step is how the cable lug sits on the terminal.

The lug should sit flat and fully flush against the terminal surface:

  • No angles
  • No gaps
  • Full contact across the connection

A properly seated lug ensures efficient power transfer and minimizes resistance.

If the connection is uneven or partially lifted, it can create a poor contact point that leads to heat buildup under load.

Stacking Multiple Lugs

In some systems, multiple cables may need to connect to the same terminal.

When stacking lugs:
