How to Ground Your Inverter Charger in Your Marine Electrical System
Within your Multiplus Inverter Charger, there is a lug on the frame that is called the case ground. A large ground wire goes from the lug to your grounding bus, which connects to the boat’s neutral or negative battery post. It is very important that you size your grounding wire correctly. It should be as thick, or one gauge smaller, than the main conductors that feed your inverter charger.
In the event of an internal short or malfunction, the large positive wire coming from the Lynx Distributor to the Multiplus would touch the case and electrify it. But, if the system has proper grounding, the power can be safely sent back to the battery bank. This trips the fuse on the way and shuts the power off, ensuring all your components stay safe. So, although your Multiplus will function without grounding, it is essential to prevent dangerous situations that could damage your components.
