    Does the Progressive Dynamics charger detect when the battery is full and reduce the voltage and current accordingly?

      Hello Mike,

      The lithium versions of the Progressive Dynamics charger have a constant voltage of 14.6 volts. When the batteries are very close to full the amperage drops down to a low amount and the voltage stays the same. This allows the balancing process to begin where any individual cell that may be lower than another is then topped off.

    Is it the job of the BMS to lower the amperage when full charge is reached or is it the job of the converter? I bought a Boondocker 1260CL and am told that it’s the job of the BmS to lower the amperage when full charged is reached.

      Hi RP,

      The internal BMS in our batteries does not limit the current coming into the battery. The boondocker should put in the 60 amps until the battery is near full and then it will automatically drop the current and stay at a constant voltage.

    Will this directly replace a WFCO 8955 for charging LiFePO4 batteries? Is wiring this in straight forward? Is there any reason to instead use a PD4655LI?

      Hi Scott,

      This is not a “direct replacement section” like the PD4655LI. We have had customers use this deck/floor mount converter in place of the WF-89955pec by cutting off the 3 prong AC plug and splicing in the wires with good success. Just make sure that when putting in a replacement unit with more amperage than the previous version, you check that the fuses and wire gauges are properly sized.

    This is more a question than a review
    Does the 60amp charger come with the wires or is it additional?

      Hi Dav,

      The Progressive Dynamics 60 amp charger does not come with the output DC wires. It does have a 3 prong ac plug on the other side.

    Found this converter to be the perfect companion to my BB batteries.

    Used tp re[;ace the converter section of my WFCO 8955 power center. Yes, I did have to cut off the plug and direct wire to the AC panel. Merely cut the old wires off at the converter circuit board, stripped and installed on the PD converter.

    To gain maximum charge rate the wire from battery bank to Converter was upgraded to #4 awg , connected to the converter rather than the fuse block in the distribution panel.

    Charge time for two BB batteires discharged to ~50% SOC is now 3 hours or less.

    I bought one of the 60A PD lithium battery chargers to replace my PD 40A conventional charger.
    Now I read that Battleborn states “the battery prefers to bulk charge at 14.4 volts and float at 13.6 volts”
    Which the PD lithium chargers do not do this float stage.
    Is this an issue? Why do you sell a charger that does not do your preferred float voltage?

      Hi Allen,

      The 14.4 bulk and the 13.6 float is for chargers that use a 3 stage charger. The Progressive Dynamics lithium is basically a 2 stage charger and works great with our batteries, it charges with 60 amps and a voltage setpoint of 14.6.
      Both the 3 stage and 2 stage chargers are perfectly acceptable.

    Jamie Dimond and I set up This Progressive Dynamics 12V 60-amp LiFePO4 Battery Charger and a Victron mppt 100/50
    controler The system runs great My small harbor Freight 13 amp predator generator handles the load on the charger for a full 60 amp charge rate on my Lance camper.
